My first action as a committee member is going to be to suggest the revival of the Ayr half marathon. I have had a chat to a few people about it and they think it is a good idea. got a route in mind www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=484577 might need a bit of tinkering with. i would be willing to compromise and make it a ten mile race or something if we had to do that to get it past the police etc. Your thoughts.

Yeah, Connell and I had discussed using the mile as a sort of fun run but not quite to the extent of an elite mile. When you say elite mile do you mean getting Craig Mottram and El Guerrouj and the likes? That would be fun but how likely would it be? Or elite as in club level e.g. myself and connell? The council are taking ages in getting back to me, my motivation to organise it will have totally faded at this rate. Kevan.

I would have thought that an Elite Mile would be ran by medal holders of any registered Scottish athletics events or the twenty fastest runners who have entered these competitions. I would reckon you would have to earn a position rather than just putting your name in. Perhaps the top twenty runners who enter the marathon could have the opportunity of running the elite mile. You could invite elite runners, but you may have to pay for them.
However as they are such different distances/disciplines, I don't know how it would work. I wouldn't expect anyone would want to do both runs.
As Kevan says on his post, we had talked about going more for a fun run which could be ran beforehand without using main roads. This means that the half marathon would be ran by the more serious runners and the main roads could be opened quicker. A fun run would maybe help bring more support than an Elite run.

Following a discussion at the agm last night i am thinking that a 10k might be the best way to re-find our feet in the runnig calender. Less organisation required and a gentler learning curve for me. I still aim to run a half marathon one day just not in 2007. What about this route? www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=533779. I can see three points where the police would be required for road crossing. Nice sceneic route, no too hilly. Changing at the rugby club, hopefully. Potential date Wednesday 16th may 2007. Following on from troon and killie 10ks, not too sure if they have provisional dates yet, obviously dont want to clash with them. Also before the start of the polaroid series races. Kevan.

Hi Kevan The start and finish are pretty much the same as the last Tam O' Shanter 10K that was run by Seaforth. I thought it was a fairly good course. It went along the prom rather than Doonfoot Road. However, it came back along Doonfoot Road. Who organised it that time? I remember we got some nice mugs! Looking forward to it already. Alex
