Hi all,
Just thought i might canvas opinion on this subject. I think its realy hard to go to a running club not knowing the stanbdard that people are at and being left behind in training sessions. I can think of a couple of examples of people that have turned up, been left behind and never come back again. I think that is a bit of shame given the dearth of road runners the club has at present.
Any ideas what we could do? I was thinking about trying to set up a beginners group or jogging group that goes out seapratley from our group. this would ease people into it gently but it wouldnt really give them a taste for the sessions we do. Dont know who would "lead" it though. I also thought about a nominated individual who would buddy up with new people and make sure they dont get left behind(stole that idea from the troon discussion board, shh, dont tell them). it doesnt always have to be the same person.
I know this isnt a major issue as we are hardly overwhelmed by wannabe runners but it might be an idea to try and attract some new blood to the club. I notice that irvine put all their results in the local paper and they put a bit of info about the club along with it. I am sure that might get some interest, plus i dont think i see my name in the paper enough.
Discuss.
Kevan.

Problem with a jogging group is that somebody has to want to take the lead. i dont particularly want to as i am enjoying my training at the moment. This seems necessary as people arent going to come along to the club to run themselves when they can do that....erm.... by themselves Any volunteers? Somebody that is enthusiatsic, dynamic, knowlegable, no longer competitive, nurturing and willing to commit to make seaforth great again? I wont hold my breath. Kevan.

Hi Kevan. I really do think a beginners group is a great idea. You could advertise it in the Ayrshire post, I'm sure you'd get a good response. To see all the people out on a Sunday morning always makes me think they could be potential new members. We could take it turns running the beginners courses, although i do think one guy would be ideal for the job. What do think Cameron ? ! See you on Tuesday night.

Hi Paul, good to hear from you. I am especially glad that you like my idea of a beginners group. As for your naming of Cameron's the ONE, the thought had crossed my mind too but i didn't want to put any pressure on him. But seeing as you have done it i think we can formally offer him the job. Unfortunately i don't think he has been back since his initial foray onto the forum some weeks ago now. Dam it, i might have to communicate with him the the old fashioned way

Think the beginners' group is an excellent idea. . advert in the local press + a start time. .say in a few wks. .all u need is someone 2 b down at the club organising the sessions on a regularly basis. . THAT PERSON IS THE KEY!

Hi Kevan,
You'll be glad to hear we've got a guy for the beginners group. We all took a vote at the club tonight and we had a unaminous vote for you to be the man. You start next tuesday.

A simple option for training with beginners and faster runners is to plan your route to incorporate some additional loops to send the faster runners along, they run this hard and catch up with the slower group, running with them until the next loop turning their session into a fartlek while the beginners have done a steady paced run.
it might not be the ideal solution but if you don't have anyone willing to commit to taking the beginners group then its something to think about.

I have an idea. I am planning to train on the track early on thursdays so i could do something afterward for my warm down.
Where do we advertise it? Ayrshire post, posters at dam park, citadel other gyms?
If people were keen they could come along on a tuesday and we could do what kb suggested.
