Hi IM Skint,
as a previous thread stated you should try each club to see what suits your training.
Girvan train Tues & Thurs 7pm @ the High school. £1.50 per night. Theres also a Jogging Group which starts an hour earlier. The club are meeting on a Sat morn for a session just outside the High school for either grass or road reps.
the £20 fee goes towards entry fees to National or District competitions, although Girvan didnt field a team this year @ the Ayrshire Relays where they were defending champions.Other bigger comps seem to go a miss with Girvan also due to depth in the ranks.Vests are £15 - £20 I think.
Good luck with the Club finding & might see you soon.

Thank you for your help lads. I checked out the link and webpage for Kilmarnock and recognise the vest from West District and National relays. I tried to get information on Girvan, but not much out their, so thanks again for your help "Sun...".
I'm really confused with Irvine. 1 forum, 2 clubs (North Ayrshire?), 2 tracks and 2 webpages. The vest isn't as distinguished as other clubs so it's not so obvious if I would recognise the runners. However the results show that they have some runners of a high standard.
I take on board the "suck it and see" method but i'm not sure how long i'll be in the area (could be a year, could be 10) so I want to get it right first time. I'm sure whatever club I go to will be more than adequate for my needs.

I would like to sell Girvan to you, although we might be a wee bit far down for you,we train most nights but regular club nights are tuesday and thusrday with a saturday morning session, most sessions are endurance based .we are quite a small club but are growing and becoming more ambitious which is why we are on the look out for runners of all standards,we get about 15 to 20 runners for tues thurs sessions usually, abilitys vary but we have colin brash 32 mins 10km and top hill runner, kerry wilson 6th in this years grand prix event among a great bunch of guys and lassies,we had 11 runners in the stranraer 10km so there is a bit of depth, anyway all the ayrshire clubs will give you a welcome .come down for a session one night mate, give us a phone 01465725255.

Thank you again for your help. It is much appreciated and has helped me greatly. As Girvan is about 30 miles to travel, I would probably train at Kilmarnock which would be running distance for me in summer. But, I would still like to take up the offer of coming down to Girvan occasionally on a Saturday morning to do a session.
It's good to see so much comaradery between the club as it's something I'm not that used to. Still I think there is no harm in blowing your clubs trumpet. But maybe I was expecting too much considering this is the Ayr forum and not Ayrshire's forum.
Hope to see you all soon.

One thing you may have to take into consideration but may already know this,is after you've paid the Club membership whether its @ the low end of scale £20 or the higher end £30 upwards is you still have your annual membership to scottish Athletics on top of this.
Depends on your budget but if your like most runners that i know its VALUE for money there after whether its trainers, clothing or race entry cost.

Hi Claire. It's good to hear another woman on the forum. I had joined scottish athletics prior to child birth but haven't competed for a few years. However now i'll be back at work and some kind of routine, i'm hoping to get back into racing too, so SA membership is next on cards.

Reading between the lines, Ayr Seaforth is not a club for road runners. It could be said that it is in fact a track club and it has a niche that no other clubs in Ayrshire can provide "a proper track".
Although they are delays, before the end of the decade, their is a good chance that Irvine club will have use of the track at Addrossan and St Joseph's in Kilmarnock will have a track that the Harriers may have use of.
If this was the case, how would Ayr move forward to ensure that they could maintain their quantity and quality of runners?
