I think you should change option one as I don't think it's a rumour he's a glory hunter, IT'S A FACT!!
Also this "Get faster so he wishes he didn't go". Is that as easy as saying "I'll watch a bit of Tely", can you just do it or does it require an effort /skill? I personally think Francis and Alec will be retired before I could be equal to the Irvine lads ... IF ... I continued to improve at the pace that I am doing now. Back down in Planet Earth, I don't think me "Getting faster" will phase him.

Gimme a couple of years and i will be as fast as Alec, maybe not Francis but he does run stupidly short races. 2.7 miles, pah, hardly worth it.

Is Fancis' a type error, or is it because he "Fancis' himself"?

I may be wrong, not too sure how good my grammar is, but I thought that if the word ends in an s then rather than putting s's, which might look a bit silly, you just put the apostrophe after the s instead. Like I say, I could very well be wrong about that. Just some vague recollection from distant english lessons. I distinctly remember having problems with sheep and fish, the words rather than the animals, as they do not have a plural version. That used to cause me no end of distress.
End of insight into Kevs mind. Now I am conscious of where I am putting apostrophes, dam you Connell.

Kev,
I going to let you look at the spelling again. I'll give you a clue: Yes, you are right, it isn't spelt s's. But you've still got a type error or spelling mistake (or is it because he Fancies himself"?).

Quote from www.irvineac.freeuk.com/News.html:- "Team ‘B’ had Francis Napier, a recent recruit from Ayr Seaforth Athletic Club, running and he had an excellent baptism by taking another three places to bring the ‘B’ team home in 8th place with a time of 14:52."
