I know I should have other things to do with my time but I noticed that Kilmarnock and Irvine put loads of info into their local papers, chech out icayrshire.icnetwork.co.uk/ for the proof. Yet here at seaforth we manage a few lines. Do we need a press officer? Do we already have one? Having contacts in the paper might get the attention of some of the less computer literate honest men and bonnie lassies. Kevan.

Maybe I am more concerend about the lack of coverage of the more senior members or raod runners e.g. " The senior athletes only had three available in Connell Drumond, Kevan Fulton and Adam Mackie. The senior race was won by Girvan AAC." Compared to " HOLDERS Irvine were just edged out of the winning spot after a nail-biting finish at the Ayrshire Cross-Country Relay Championship at the Beach Park on Saturday. However there was some consolation for the Irvine club in the shape of the Boys’ U17 trio who led their race from start to finish to take the gold medal.
The Marress outfit had four men’s and one women’s team competing and, from the gun, it was the Girvan AAC runner who opened up a first leg lead with Irvine’s George Irving coming home in third place with the B team’s Francis Napier not far behind in fourth spot.
On the second leg Lee Richardson worked hard for the A team to close the gap to just seven seconds at the changeover with the B team’s Willie Morgan putting in a blistering last two 200 metres to catch the third placed runner on the line.
At this point in the race it looked like a battle between Irvine A and Girvan for the gold medals while the B team were having their own tussle with Kilmarnock Harriers for the bronze medal.
Stephen Daye, who is now starting to show some form, took off for the A team on leg three and ran well to close the gap to four seconds at the hand over with the B team’s Brian Craig slipping back to fourth behind a younger Kilmarnock competitor.
The last leg was one of the most exciting for several years with Irvine’s in-form Dave Millar running against Girvan’s internationalist Stephen Wylie — a member of Cambuslang Harriers but who is eligible to run for Girvan as second claim.
After catching Wylie both runners were locked together until the last half mile when Wylie made a decisive break to bring Girvan home as champions with Millar only a few seconds down in second place.
The B team had to settle for fourth place with Colin Miller bringing them home and the senior women’s team of Helen Morton, Mary Miller and Alison Craig ran well to finish second." I am completely open to the suggstion that it is our responsibility to do something about it, I am trying to raise awareness. I think the tone sends out a completely different message, not a criticism of whoever wrote it. They also have this little encouraging bit at the end " On Saturday the club competes in the National Cross-Country Relays at Cumbernauld where they will have five men’s, one women’s and junior team’ competing.
For information on club activities contact Bill Simpson on 01294 556031 or if you just want to get fitter contact Ron Cheyne on 01294 211113 who runs the adult introduction to running section. Alternatively e-mail the club at info@irvineac.org.uk or log on to www.irvineac.org.uk where you can find a lot more information on the club" Not going to post the whole killie screed, here is the link icayrshire.icnetwork.co.uk/kilmarnockstandard/sport/tm_headline=life%2D%2Dx2019%2Ds-a-beach-for-killie-athletes%26method=full%26objectid=18001786%26siteid=73592-name_page.html Somebody tell me if they can see the difference? I know which club i would rather join Do you see my point Lazee?

Fair point, Kevin Perhaps Davyboy is right (He has the same second name as me). You probably will need to put the notice in yourself. I don't thnk we need a press officer, we just need the right guy putting in the right information. Perhaps the publisher feels he is doing a more than acceptable service to the club. At the end of the day, I've never read the Irvine Herald or Kilmarnock Standard as they are not available in Ayr. Do you think elaborating on how Ayr didn't get a full team out would help your cause. Why thank you colin lazee, a clue to your identity??? Lets see who can work it out. I am in no way trying to offend the publisher, they are doing a job that otherwise probably wouldnt get done. something is a long way better than nothing. I phoned up the ayrshire post and left an answer phone message so hopefully they will get back to me. dont want to have two people putting in the same stuff though. I am not too sure what my cause is yet More detail about our lack of team probably wouldnt help. I do think making this running malarkey seem interesting and a club that seems enthusiastic and welcoming may go some way. I guess what i am thinking is that there is a massive gaping chasm between road and track runners at the club which shouldnt be there because we all do the same thing at the end of the day. Kevan.

Hi Kevan,
I think it's clear that the writer of these articles is a committee member. Your first port of call should be to find out who it is and state that you would like the responsibility for the senior results. That way, you won't have two articles out in the paper in one week and you could phone in the report when there is only senior details to be entered. I remember Colin putting the results in last year and it does get noticed by the public.
The quote "The senior athletes only had three available in Connell Drumond, Kevan Fulton and Adam Mackie. The senior race was won by Girvan AAC." is indeed a dreadful comment. As the saying goes "If you can't say anything nice, don't say nothing at all". Whoever wrote this comment doesn't understand the situation and is not working for the benefit of the club.

It's a sad day when we have to follow the lead of killie Gone are the days they used to train at dam park (i didnt witness that myself, i was told about it). Anybody want to share the journalistic responsibilities for the road runners in a killie-esq manner?

Hello Kevan, I would be happy to assist if no one else was interested. However, perhaps this is a good time for the full club to work together and sing from the same hymn sheet. You already have your journalist guy, all you need is for him to report the track /junior news to yourself one week and you to report the senior news to him the following week. This way you get to know more about the juniors and vice versa. Simple Connell
